The grilled seafood skewers shine as a favorite, expertly combining prawns and squid with traditional spices. Guests rave about the calamari, which strikes a perfect balance between crispy and tender. The wine selection is another highlight, with various Portuguese options that complement the dishes superbly. The atmosphere invites patrons to unwind, especially with the cozy fireplace and the option for outdoor seating. Customers frequently mention the exceptional service, making every visit enjoyable. Fado nights transform an ordinary meal into an unforgettable experience, with the soulful music creating lasting memories.

Most Disliked

Some patrons have pointed out the wait times during peak dining hours, particularly Saturday evenings when reservations are highly recommended. A few guests noted that certain dishes, like bruschetta, could benefit from additional flavor enhancements. While most agree on the food quality, a handful felt some portions were smaller than anticipated for sharing, particularly during busy nights. A few reviewers mentioned that the dessert options, while good, could use more variety. Lastly, late-night service availability tends to vary, which might disappoint those looking for a post-dinner treat.

Outstanding service and food quality. The best Portuguese restaurant I have been in 26 years living in England so far. Exceded my expectations. Thank you Dona Rosa (owner) and Dona Lina (chef). Good value for money. If you love food and the combination of excellent service you don't know what you are missing until you visit this venue. 😁❤️💯

Me and my family, a group of 11 people attended O Calhau yesterday for Fado night. It was amazing, my partner lives close by and it was always somewhere we wanted to visit. Food was amazing, the chef was amazing too, she was so welcoming. Being from Madeira ourselves, it felt like being home again. My family travelled far and really enjoyed it too! We will definitely be visiting again! First but not the last time. Muito Obrigada! ❤️

Great place to enjoy some Portuguese style food. We ordered the seafood, which was a great portion of mussels, clams and prawns which can be easily shared with 3 persons. The battered calamari was too good, cooked just right and not too chewy. The bread basket comes with olives and sardine pate and tuna pate. The bruschetta was satisfactory, missed the balsamic vinegar drizzle though. The highlight of our dinner experience was the Grilled skewer sirloin steak with prawns. The tenderness of the meat and the prawns combination was excessively perfect. Overall I would definitely suggest this place for anyone looking forward to a Portuguese restaurant and a cozy ambiance

Credit where credit is due... The food was unreal: delicious, authentic and filling! So far I’ve tried the prawns, the sea bass and a salmon dish here and I’ve left happy each time. It helps that the bill is reasonable too. I will continue to work my way through the fish menu👌🏼 thanks for a lovely dinner and the friendly service throughout.
